Is there a reason I am unable to edit the world server config? Every time i open it and change anything the world server exe wont open but for a second. If i open the config file and change the value back. it still immodestly crashes. I am using the vip mop version 4.

i have the 5.4.8 vip running on windows server 2019

So everything runs with default but any time i make ANY changes to the world server config file it does not work it crashes and comes up with the following error

invalid or missing configuration file : worldserver.conf Verify that the file exists and has [worldserver] written in the top of the file!

I have tried

reinstalling a few times
running as both admin and regular user
Checking permissions
setting note pad as default program
Changing paths
running on windows ten

I have tried MANYWAYS to edit the world server config and EVERY TIME i edit even starting gold it comes up with the error . I change it back and i STILL have the error with the edited file. I add the default file from the down load it works again.

Thank you

2 ideas.
1) You are accidentally (ie. the system is defaulting) saving it as a .txt file. Like worldserver.conf.txt
2) It might be a permissions issue and it's saved as read-only. Check the properties of the document.

Hope it's an easy fix for you.

Your awesome! Yes number 1 was the culprit. I was able to fix with notepad ++ editing with that and saving as directly with an un edited version in that folder.

THANK YOU!

Yeah, messing around with world server configs can be a real headache, especially when small mistakes break everything. I’ve run into similar issues before, and sometimes it's not even about the config itself but something deeper, like dependencies or version mismatches. When I was working on a math-heavy project, I had to structure things carefully, almost like writing a solid research proposal. This guide https://www.phdresearchproposal.org/creating-a-phd-research-proposal-in-mathematics/ actually helped me think more clearly about problem-solving in complex systems—might sound unrelated, but breaking things down methodically can make a huge difference. Maybe try reviewing your config step by step with that mindset?
