While I update and compile my own TC 3.3.5 server I am certain there are many fellow forum members that will appreciate having the compile part done.
It can be a little intimidating to those not familiar with using GIT, CMAKE and Visual Studio. I don't see if as dividing the development forces by rather offering the community a better selection of emulators to choose from.

Will this continue to have the database autoupdater?

If you follow the Trinity Core guide its actually pretty easy! i compiled my first core on the weekend... now i have my core compiling and WoTLK server on one machine so i can just compile any time i like and update my server.

Ive been mucking round compiling mine and ive run into the problem where running the auth or world server throws up an error about mscvrt140d.dll and runtime missing.. no matter what i do ie installing redistributables it doesnt change. How did you setup your visual studio etc?

It's been so long that I can't remember. I also already had visual studio set up before then as I use it for other things every now and then. Are you getting that error after compiling and attempting to run it? If so, where are you putting the mscvrt140d.dll?
I would make sure it's specifically downloaded, and put that in the folder with your auth and world server and try that.
I'm not very knowledgeable in this, so I can't help too much. This 3.5.5 was meant to help me get into WoW development but I never got the time to continue it.
