AzerothCore
AzerothCore (AC) is a project created in 2016 by former Italian private server AzerothShard . It is based on MaNGOS/TrinityCore/SunwellCore. Although AzerothShard was shut down in 2018, the AzerothCore project continues to grow, implementing many improvements and is used by many private servers today.
AzerothCore is the WoW emulator with the largest community (according to Discord) and the highest development activity (according to GitHub) in the last year. It is the second highest WoW emulator in terms of number of GitHub Stars, behind TrinityCore.
Use AscEmu if you are (or want to be) familiar with Arcemu/Antrix based emulators.
One of the most important features of AzerothCore is its modular system, allowing private server owners to make customizations without directly patching the core source code. This makes it easy for servers to keep their source versions updated and reuse custom code. There is even a public collection of modules created by the community. This makes it an excellent choice for custom servers.
There are several ways to install AzerothCore. The legacy setup is similar to other emulators, and of course all operating systems are supported. There's also the AC Docker setup, which is an easier process (works on all Docker-capable operating systems), and the AC Dashboard setup, which makes the whole process really easy (but the last option only works on GNU/Linux systems).

The supported game version is Wrath of the Lich King (3.3.5a), the game quality is the best in this version, very close to Blizzard. This makes it an excellent choice for a WLK server. It is very stable and has a community of thousands of players successfully using it.
Finally, the AzerothCore team implemented its own database and SmartAI editor, Keira3 , which is cross-platform and user-friendly.
If you prefer a project with a large community, if game quality is important to you, if you need production-ready servers, or if you want to use custom features, use AzerothCore. Installing AC will be especially easy for you if you use Linux (Windows and macOS are also supported).
If you want to use a version of WoW newer than WLK, please don't use AzerothCore. Some communities use it for classic old world -> TBC -> WLK progress server. However, it does not provide a 100% classic legacy or TBC experience as only 3.3.5a clients are supported. If you plan on sticking to Classic Old World or TBC forever, then AzerothCore probably isn't the best choice for you.
