How did you get into WoW Emulation?

So I just thought of this thread recently, and thought it could be entertaining to hear.

How did you find out, and get into WoW Emulation?

I personally (back in like end 2011 - I was young/younger back then!), had this talk with a friend that we should go and create a 255 funserver (we had no experience though), and we talked about it for days being hyped. We clearly used google and downloaded a wotlk repack, but could not get it to work. I clearly remember we managed to somehow (spent entire night I remember), fix very simple issues, and we managed to get worldserver and authserver up, but we could not login. We didn't know the login, and didn't know how to create it ourselves, and after that we dropped it, and the hype was gone, apparantly.

Probably a few months later in 2012 I returned and I improved, learned and went my way through.

My brother and his friends would always talk about playing retail WoW, and they seemed to have a lot of fun with it. I at first thought WoW was incredibly stupid (idk why) and I later started getting more into it, but never played it. Then one of my friends, who also played WoW, started up a private server for himself, and I saw some cool things he was doing on there like flying, spawning objects, etc.
I was fairly young at the time, so being able to fly around and modify my damage really high seemed really fun, so I started playing WotLK. Until I started playing this repack, which was the first time since I was playing around on WotLK servers, and after playing retail WoW from WotLK to WoD.
Now I actually care about playing the game instead of flying around and cheating everything

I have been playing private servers since BC. I remember when they were actually better back then with complete databases of quests, before WoW made it impossible to pull quest BD information from their servers. Then 3.3.5 but alliance quests were complete, while horde lacked in jeuties, I never searched for another. I am hoping that this 4.3.4 has every quest. I really want to quest up to 85, one of my favorite things to do in WoW. It would be neat to play with friends a smooth questing experience.
